Some people think that God commands us to do his will while at the same time giving us free will to do as we want. It may sound hypocritical, but the more you think about it, along with reading this verse, the more clearly it becomes that we fully understand the truth he proclaims so it is not necessarily a command rather than a solution. We have free will to do whatever we choose, but we all know his commandments are the way to life. Here, Jesus tells us he is our friend and we are not his servants. Why would he do this? Because we all know the truth - he made it all very clear. And if we were his servants, he would break his own law about worshiping a man other than God.
