The light was created and it was good. Now visibility was possible and creation could take place. What exactly is light? What exactly is darkness? To us, it is day and night, but to the Lord, it is a place that our soul will exist and we must choose to live in one or the other. All things to God are in black and white. There are no grey areas. So when we think of God creating light and dividing it from darkness, we know that it is a:
A. Physical reaction
B. Spiritual realm
Light and darkness. Sin and righteousness. Each are meant for you to understand.
