Is work really that hard?

I have been working since I was little. From the time my mother would cut the grass, I begged her to allow me to take over. That time felt like it would never come. I wanted to push that mower so bad. I could be a big kid if I did what grown-ups do. She would never let me.
Finally, one day, it was my turn to mow. The big day was finally here and boy was it exciting. I get to cut the grass! I'd make my first path and then another. I walked behind it around the yard, in the dead heat of the day. Did I care? Nah. I was a big kid!
Once I cut the grass two or three times, I realized that it wasn't becoming fun anymore. All the excitement that built up, I was finding, wasn't worth it. The excitement of what it could be was far better than actually doing it. It quickly became work.
Now, I have been cutting my own grass for years and years. I've learned to make it what I want to be. I crank on my iPod, pop in the headphones and I'm on my way. Yes, it's still work, but more enjoyable.
I have done many tough jobs in my lifetime and I'm sure there are many more to come. From working on the farm and milking cows to roofing and framing homes, I've done just about everything there is. I have worn myself out.
Though I work in a cozy office everyday, I still urn for the work that makes me strong. I need some type of excercise to keep me moving around. Yes, it can be very hard work, and the days can feel like an eternity, but when you kick off your shoes at the end of the day and lay back, it sure feels good. Plus you can enjoy the fruit of your labor and admire your work.
Some people in the world cannot work, some choose not to. It is a gift to provide for yourself and your family.
